On 6 June, Rouse International, together with its strategic partner Lusheng Law Firm, successfully held a seminar on practical issues in domestic and overseas intellectual property disputes in Guangzhou.
This seminar focused on two core sections, namely "Analysis of Domestic Cases" and "Global Enforcement Strategies", jointly exploring the hot and difficult issues in IP protection. It aimed to seek solutions to the challenges encountered in domestic and overseas intellectual property matters and provided right holders with comprehensive and multi-dimensional guidance and support on how to respond in practice to domestic and international IP challenges.

The seminar was opened by Rouse International partner Amanda Yang, who delivered the opening remarks and, in the section on global enforcement strategies, provided a professional interpretation of the relevant legal systems of Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia in relation to trademark squatting in Southeast Asia, and shared response strategies.

Sophia Hou, Managing Partner of Guangzhou Office, China Head of Enforcement of Lusheng Law Firm, shared with the participants offensive and defensive strategies for IP enforcement, and presented the patent infringement case concerning the Sony game controller trademark, which was selected as a typical case of administrative protection of intellectual property rights in Guangdong Province (released in 2024).

Attorney Vivian Zhang of Lusheng Law Firm gave a detailed introduction to the typical series of cases involving the intersection of criminal and civil matters—the “Christmas Elf” series of cases. Among them, the case in which the Christmas elf doll, as a three-dimensional artistic work, obtained criminal protection of copyright for the first time attracted extensive media attention and coverage. This series of cases also received several awards, including Typical Cases of Intellectual Property Protection (2017–2021) by the People’s Procuratorate of Longgang District, Shenzhen; Top Ten Typical Intellectual Property Cases (2016–2020) by the People’s Court of Longgang District, Shenzhen; Top Ten Foreign-related Intellectual Property Cases in Guangdong in 2020; and Outstanding Lingnan Intellectual Property Litigation Cases in 2020.
